Spirit Boy
HISTORY can be achieved in many, many ways.
La Sagrada and Miss Envy ran the quinella in the G2 Qld Futurity at Albion Park last Thursday night and the WA-bred pair, by Aston Dee Bee-Miss America, are bred on a strong reinforcement of Bombastic Shiraz balanced via daughter and son.
But, it was the history making quinella by Spirit Boy and his litter brother Black Liar (Corykodi-Liar Teller by Sulzanti) in the G2 Qld Derby on the same night that should have made breeding buffs smile.
Spirit Boy, bred by Jamie Hancock and Will Griffiths, and now raced by Jake Northfield, has proved himself with a Taree track record and a win in the G3 Taree Cup.
He has also been a finalist in the G3 Casino Cup and Silver Dollars.
Almost everything about his pedigree is Northern Rivers based.
His sire Corykodi (Paw Licking-Dayseas Astra) was a flying machine for veteran dog man Claude Dacey.
He won the G3 Devonport Cup and started his career in the Rivers time honoured Pop Northfield Maiden winning it stylishly. He became a multiple Group performer.
His father, Paw Licking, was a Rivers-bred speedster and G1 performer.
Corykodi’s family is right to the fore at the moment. Recent G1 The Phoenix third, Daysea’s Rory is by Sennachie-Nikki Nettle the dam a litter sister to Corykodi.
Liar Tellar (Sulzanti-Porky Teller) is the dam of Spirit Boy and Black Liar.
She was a speedy bitch winning nine races in a marathon 109-start career.
But, she was also a litter sister to Short Pork who ran a Murray Bridge TR, was second in the G3 Casino Cup and Murray Bridge Cup and a finalist at G1 level in the Harrison Dawson, the G2 Qld Derby, G2 Ballarat Cup, G2 Healesville Cup and won at Sandown in 29.22.
Liar Tellar certainly did deserve to be utilised at stud.
The 2nd dam of Spirit Boy, Porky Teller (Bralyn County-Kingsbrae Sam) was also a finalist in the G3 Casino Cup, and the winner of 34 races. She too comes from a fabulous litter, all of it Rivers bred.
The 3rd dam, Kingsbrae Sam (Bit Chili-Kingsbrae Di) won 21 races and is the dam of G3 Casino Cup winner Terra Torra herself the dam of recent Casino TR breakers Key And Chaos and Snake And Ladder.
The 4th dam, Kingsbrae Di (Solve The Puzzle-Pretty Jacalyn) won 40 races and was the winner or finalist in nine feature events and won on 18 different tracks.
The entire female family runs to Brindle County with who Billy Northfield founded a Rivers Dynasty.
It’s the direct damline of Short County and County Gossip, both Wenty Park stars, and eventually gets to Pitstock Park who holds her place in the world of greyhound bloodlines as the dam of legends Brother Fox and Acacia Park.
Liar Tellar’s pedigree is as interesting as that of her sons Spirit Boy and Black Liar.
She is in-bred 3x4 to Brett Lee along the sireline, but also has a 4x4 of the litter brothers Elite State and Firefly Boy, plus a 6x4 double and balance of Solve The Puzzle.
When Liar Teller was mated to Corykodi, it was like putting brother and sister together.
Why?
Because Corykodi’s sire Paw Licking is a half brother to Liar Tellar’s 2 nd dam Kingsbrae Sam both of them out of Kingsbrae Di.
But, in Spirit Boy, we also bring in a 3x3 of Cosmic Rumble and Magic Sprite. They are bred on the reverse cross of Spiral Nikita over a daughter of Brett Lee (Cosmic Rumble) and by Brett Lee over a daughter of Spiral Nikita (Sulzanti).
Pace, pace, pace and pace … that’s the four generations of Spirit Boy’s pedigree.
Sulzanti, damsire of Spirit Boy, is also a real Rivers success.
His dam Scissor Queen twice won the Grafton Sprinters Cup. The Magic Sprite/Scissor Queen cross found in Sulzanti, is also found in recently retired Fahey’s Magic (G1 Golden Sands) by Magic Sprite from a daughter of Scissor Queen.
Scissor Queen is also the 2nd dam of G1 class Locked On Scotch and Queen Of Scotch (by Hooked On Scotch).
AND, recent G1 Wheeler finalist, Sammy Ethan, is by Fernando Bale from another daughter of Scissor Queen.
AND, this is the very same damline as now leading stud dog Bernardo.
AND, 2022 The Phoenix finalist Tyanna Belle is by Cosmic Rumble from a sister to Surfonic (dam of Bernardo).
Maurice Minor, a litter brother to Tyanna Belle, is the sire of Tagovailoa who next Thursday night will run in the G1 Golden Sands at Albion Park
