Bombastic Shiraz
ASTON Dee Bee has been in the world spotlight in recent months through the deeds of his recent stars Miss Envy and Dalwhinnie.
Miss Envy (Aston Dee Bee-Miss America by Fabregas) won the G1 Nat Sprint and only last Thursday night ran a sensational 28.98 when winning a heat of the G2 Laurels at Sandown.
Dalwhinnie (Aston Dee Bee-Rasheda by My Bro Fabio) broke the 10-year-old Wentworth Park track record when running 29.03 back in October and his 29.19 win there last Thursday night was awesome again.
The immediate feature of both pedigrees, both of them designed by Pedigrees By Design, is that they carry a strong duplication and balance of Bombastic Shiraz.
Miss Envy has him 3x3, Dalwhinnie has him 3x4.
As the famous thoroughbred pedigrees guru Ken McLean has written often in regards to balancing a duplicating ancestor within a pedigree:
“There are many ways a breeder is able to duplicate an ancestor because different patterns may be designed. If there is concentration of a male ancestor only via his sons, it is a limiting factor and will automatically exclude any valuable sex-linked genes located on the X sex chromosome. Male ancestors can only transmit their Y sex chromosome to sons. However, by reinforcing a male ancestor via both sexes (son and daughter) it provides an opportunity for valuable sex-linked genes to be inherited because a male ancestor’s X sex chromosome is always given to his daughters. This is why I preach the concept of duplicating male ancestors via sons and daughters so as to deploy similar genes on BOTH sides of chromosomal pairings.”
Some broodbitch owners, and those sceptics who say such factors have little or no influence, thus have no explanation of why Miss Envy and Dalwhinnie are so good, so VERY good.
It is an interesting factor that the double of Bombastic Shiraz, a son of Black Shiraz, is balanced again in the dam of both Miss Envy and Dalwhinnie through the DAUGHTER strain of Black Shiraz’s litter brother Big Ginger Boy.
Miss Envy also has a very strong reinforcement of the famed Mad Midge direct damline found through Aston Dee Bee’s dam and also through Awesome Assassin in Fabregas.
Dalwhinnie has this family reinforcement but through a son of Awesome Assassin (Whisky Assassin) in his damline.
Dalwhinnie also has a 4x4 of the brothers Hallucinate and Where’s Pedro.
What it did in Dalwhinnie’s pedigree was virtually mate brother and sister Aston Dee Bee and Rasheda … they are bred on a very similar cross.
What is interesting too is that both trace along their tail female lines to famed female families.
Miss Envy is the Wee Sal/Sobbing Sal/Brett Lee damline.
Dalwhinnie is the famed Val Matese damline that is more recent times has boasted Million Dollar Chase winner McInerney.
