Saige Tenniele
MUCH has been written by now about the complete turnaround of Saige Tenniele from GAP-bound break-in failure to Group 1 National Sprint winner leaving behind some boom opposition.
Good on Kody Charles over in WA for sticking with the daughter of Bernardo-Abstract Miss by Dyna Double One.
Those of us who like to delve into what has made the bitch a G1 winner will notice instantly that she is strongly line bred 3x3 to Surf Queen (Surf Lorian-Queen Size) and Teenage Dream (Knocka Norris-Size 'em Up) .
They are both from the Just The Best sireline and from the Queen Size damline ... making them virtual sisters.
We already know that Surf Lorian and Knocka Norris have combined to produce G1 Golden Easter Egg winner Don't Knocka Him and his fine producing sisters Scissor Queen and Litter Miss Hap.
Saige Tenniele's dam Abstract Miss was a finalist in the G3 The Miata back in 2020.
Her dam, Mulwee Dream, was a Wentworth Park winner and a half sister to Reg Kay's Group stars Happy Haswell and Good Call Paul, as well as Surfection.
Mulwee Dream's litter sister, the classy galloper Spring Dream, is the dam of classy Albion Park performer Mrs Sing (16 wins, $54,000).
Interestingly, Spring Dream is the dam of a litter by Bernardo that has winners, but hardly one to come close to the ability of Saige Tenniele.
But, what also interests me about Saige Tenniele is the fact her damsire is Dyna Double One.
I've been waiting, and waiting, and waiting for his daughters to become successful broodbitches.
Dyna Double One, we all know, was a racetrack great.
I'm the first to admit, I thought he would be a better sire than he has become, but his daughters are (to this stage) struggling to make a really great impact.
Compare him with his kennelmate Fernando Bale who went to stud at about the same time and they are chalk and cheese. Fernando's daughters are producing Group stars everywhere (think Amron Boy for just one), but not so Dyna Double One until Saige Tenniele came along at the weekend.
NZ G1 placed Cawbourne Carty and Sapphire Crown finalist Plagerise have been the standouts until now, while a My Redeemer-Gemma Nismo by Dyna Double One over in Adelaide are smart.
Saige Tenniele is also one of the few really high class gallopers with that double of the Queen Size damline.
BUT, those interested should look at the pedigree of that extra smart Queensland stayer Hidden Agenda (Sulzanti-Fernvale Ruby by Don't Knocka Him) will see he has THREE crosses of Queen Size 4x4x4 in his pedigree.
His dam, Fernvale Ruby, is in-bred to littermates Surf Queen and Made To Size.
Hidden Agenda is then in-bred 2x2 to littermates Scissor Queen and Don't Knocka Him.
WHICH brings us to another Group winner in G2 Townsville Cup heroine More Peaches (Sennachie-New Abode by Lochinvar Marlow).
My long-time mate Mick Boody has been breeding good dogs for a very long time. He bred the dam of champion Glen Gallon.
Mick raced More Peaches' 3rd dam, Top Talker (Gable Lafourche-Mockingbird Hill) a litter sister to superstar One Tree Hill.
The pedigree of More Peaches is something else.
She is line bred 3x2 to Chloe Allen and Lochinvar Marlow who are both bred on the Black Shiraz/Awesome Assassin cross.
She is also bred 1x4 to Sennachie and Gable Lafourche who each carry Gable Dodge and the Representation damline.
And, her dam New Abode, a 12-time winner at Albion Park and Ipswich, is strongly line bred 3x3 to Brett Lee. No wonder she has been a very good broodbitch.
