Power and Glory
IT’S a pretty good name, and Power And Glory is certainly living up to that judging on his stylish win at Wenty Park at the weekend.
The son of Hooked On Scotch-Kwong Magic by El Grand Senor is raced by Jeff Eastburn and trained by Ken Burnett.
In eight starts he has won five and been placed three times and his win at Wenty in April in 29.28 certainly stamped him as special.
He has been third in the Smith Memorial Maiden and then third in the G3 New Sensation chasing home that extra good dog Good Odds Harada.
Along the way he has also run 29.60 around Dapto.
His pedigree is fabulous, with LOTS of Aussie line breeding, proven crosses and tracing to a damline that is making a comeback through Power And Glory himself.
Sire Hooked On Scotch, he of G1 glory and track record ability, has been a success at stud already (think Postman Pat) and his progeny have earned $6 million. He has a winners to runners percentage of 15.8.
The dam, Kwong Magic (El Grand Senor-Princess Aria by Fabregas) raced just 15 times but won seven and was placed four times for $13,000. She was a speedster winning over 280m at Wenty as well as sprints at Bulli, Richmond and Gosford.
Her dam Princess Aria was unraced, but next dam Some Folkes (in-bred 2x2 to the famous half brothers Brett Lee and Big Daddy Cool) won eight. Little Receiver, the 5 th dam of Power And Glory, won the Rising Star Classic at Wenty and became the dam of Scott Duffy’s nice race bitch and producer Runya Beach.
So, what is special about the pedigree of Power And Glory?
Like Postman Pat, his dam has Fabregas up close and Hooked On Scotch is already working great when crossed with bitches that have Fabregas.
The special cross is between Misty Fields, 2 nd dam of Hooked On Scotch, and Fabregas himself.
They both bring in Black Shiraz and Larkhill Jo and perfectly balanced.
Misty Fields is by Droopys Kewell a SON of Larkhill Jo, and she is out of Barbie’s Shiraz, a DAUGHTER of Black Shiraz.
Fabregas is by Bombastic Shiraz a SON of Black Shiraz and out of a DAUGHTER of Larkhill Jo.
Readers should be able to see what I mean by the balancing effect Misty Fields and Fabregas have on each other.
But, it does not end there.
Power And Glory has a 4x3x4 of the famous litter brothers Hallucinate and Where’s Pedro (twice) and this too is balanced via two daughter strains and one through a son.
But, let’s look at the pedigree of Kwong Magic. She has two SONS of Black Shiraz in her pedigree (Elgrando and Bombastic Shiraz) but this is balanced (as mentioned above) by the DAUGHTER strain of Black Shiraz in Barbie’s Shiraz.
Brett Lee comes in three times through his sons Hallucinate and Where’s Pedro, but this is balanced via the DAUGHTER strain of his half brother Big Daddy Cool.
It is a fine pedigree match.
AND, to top off all of this is a very strong cross of Goddess Of Fire and her brother Awesome Assassin found Knocka Norris’ damline and through the damline of El Grand Senor.
