Oronsay

WHILE Suffragette took the time honours winning her way into the Group 2 Launching Pad final with victory at Sandown on Thursday night, my interest was sparked more via the pedigree of promising young bitch Oronsay.

She is by that former star sprinter, track record breaker and Group winner, Walk Hard, from Dirty Angel (Cosmic Chief-Flippin' Cool) the winner of three races but from a prolific litter than earned $114,000 in stakes.

While Oronsay has now raced only 10 times for three wins and four placings, she is already a Group 3 Vic Bred Maiden winner and now a Group 2 finalist.

Her littermate Angel Dash also won at Sandown last week and was third in that Group 3 Vic Bred Maiden final.

This is a fabulous female family.

Second dam Flippin' Cool (Cool Performance-Flipper) won six races and is a litter sister to Group 1 winner Cest La Vie.

And it is the very same family as Group winner, multiple track record breaker and champion sire Surf Lorian.

Walk Hard, despite his natural racetrack talent, has only seven litters on the ground. Two of those were in 2013 including a litter from Skeeta which has won $50,000 in stakes. He had two litters in 2015, another two in 2016 and has just one this year.

It will be difficult for him to overcome that lack of response from broodbitch owners, but with the success of the litter from Dirty Angel (already the winners of $63,000 in stakes), he at least deserves more attention.

Walk Hard (Bit Chili-Miss Bling) is from the same female family as legend Sweet It Is, but this is also the family of Banjo Boy who is fast earning a reputation mainly via his hot youngster Big Flood.

Oronsay, and her littermates, have a fabulous pedigree and one students of bloodlines should study.

That's because it brings in a significant cross of Spiral Nikita (Phantom Flash-Minnies Nikita) and his half sister Minnies Luck (Live Contender-Minnies Nikita).

They come into the pedigree of Oronsay 3x5 but positioned to greatly impact upon the resultant offspring ... namely Oronsay and her littermate Angel Dash.

Pedigree students should now take a close look at the pedigree of Irish champion and successful stud dog Milldean Panther. He is in-bred 3x2 to Minnies Surprise and her litter brother Spiral Nikita.

Obviously, those who designed the pedigree of Oronsay had spotted this in Milldean Panther and put Dirty Angel to Walk Hard in a bid to recreate the Irish great.

It appears to have worked.

MUCH has happened during the past week in the world of bloodlines.

Champion My Bro Fabio had his much awaited first runner to the racetrack last week and the royally bred Paradiso Lass (My Bro Fabio-Key To Eden) showed she could be something special with a debut Maiden win at The Meadows.

I'm told the entire litter can run.

Watching Paradiso Lass overcome several checks in running and storm home to victory was indicative of a bitch with a great future over distance.

She has a very special pedigree, balanced perfectly to Black Shiraz and Head Honcho both on the fourth line, and Rapid Supreme further back. I particularly like the fact My Bro Fabio carries a DAUGHTER strain of Ginger in his direct damline.

This will allow him to mate bitches that carry more Black Shiraz in their pedigree.

Key To Eden is already the dam of Group 1 star Trip To Eden.

WHEN you are on a good thing, it is easy to stick to it in greyhound racing.

David Pringle bred Group 1 Bold Trease winning Bourbski Fever (Buck Fever-Midnight Movie). The pedigree showed in-breeding 3x2 to the virtual sisters Naughty Thoughts and Midnight Drama.

They are both by Go Wild Teddy. Naughty Thoughts is out of Ready To Rain while Midnight Drama is out of Ready To Rise, a daughter of Ready to Rain.

Also last Wednesday at The Meadows, David Pringle produced the Jason Thompson-trained Midnight Elsa to win in 29.87 by 10 lengths.

She is by Shakey Jakey (a half brother to Buck Fever) and out of Midnight News (Bombastic Shiraz-Midnight Movie). Midnight Elsa is in-bred 3x3 to the virtual sisters Naughty Thoughts and Midnight Drama.

FALCON'S Fury is a very impressive young dog building an impressive resume on the racetrack.

The son of Fabregas-Janderra's Fury by Knocka Norris is on track to establish himself as a future stud dog.

And, I will tip him (given the right opportunities) to be a much better stud dog than his own sire Fabregas.

That's because he has Knocka Norris as his damsire and brings in a number of lines in his pedigree that will provide many options for breeders in this country.

Plenty of time for that to happen ... but Falcon's Fury is certainly one to watch for the future.
