Oakvale Warrior
ANYONE who watched Oakvale Warrior spear to the front and then win by 10 lengths at Angle Park in 29.73 last week will know they were quite simply witnessing a highly promising youngster.
Nathan Wilson bred him, reared him, owns him and trains the son of High Earner-Oakvale Destiny.
You will all remember Oakvale Destiny (Vapour Whirl-Foot Luce) who was part of a VERY special litter bred by Nathan and his sister Melissa Trowbridge.
Oakvale Destiny (17 wins, $279,000) was the standout with a win in the Group 1 Sapphire Crown and a second in the G1 Topgun.
But, others in the litter of nine (all winners) included Oakvale Flyer (16 wins, $104,000) 2nd in the G1 Sapphire Crown, Texas Titan (28 wins, $136,000) a finalist in three G1s, Footluce Diva (17 wins, $61,000) SA Coursing Oaks and multiple Group finalist and Sunday Shoes (21 wins, $42,000) etc.
The litter carried one of the best pedigrees I have studied being in-bred 3x3 to the litter brothers Big Ginger Boy and Black Shiraz.
But, they carried a 2x2 cross of Broad Band and Scarlett who were bred on an identical cross. broad Band is by Big Ginger Boy from a daughter of Head Honcho. Scarlett is by Black Shiraz from a daughter of Head Honcho as well.
When Nathan and Melissa decided to breed with the great number of bitches they had available to them from this litter, they opted for a number of different options.
Oakvale Destiny went initially to High Earner and therein Nathan designed a pedigree match that is a perfect balance.
Why, I can hear you ask.
Well, that's because Oakvale Destiny, as mentioned above, is bred on the 2x2 saturation of bitches Broad Band and Scarlett who are bred identically. They came from the Ginger sireline and have Head Honcho through daughters.
Putting Oakvale Destiny to High Earner provided an ideal "balance" for Broad Band and Scarlett.
High Earner's damsire is Wild Season who is a SON of Head Honcho and his dam Seasonal Girl is a DAUGHTER of Ginger.
And, therein lies the "balance" of this pedigree.
Oakvale Warrior's 29.73 on debut is already proof it has worked.
Oakvale Destiny and her sister Footluce Diva have both had litters to Kinloch Brae. One of the best race bitches (and litters) produced by Kinloch Brae in Australia is that which included Angie Rocks a multiple feature race winner and Group placed. She was outstanding.
Her mother Punk Rock Lass is bred identically to Oakvale Destiny and Footluce Diva. They are both by Vapour Whirl, both have the Big Ginger Boy/Black Shiraz cross and both carry crosses of Hoppy's Girl in their pedigree.
It will be interesting to see if the matings to Kinloch Brae can produce another Angie Rocks or two.
And Oakvale Flyer has a litter by Barcia Bale which will double Hallucinate 3x3.
OVER in Victoria, Belt Up Bubbs landed the Healesville Derby for highly promising young stud dog My Bro Fabio.
Bubbs is by Fabio from the Kiowa Sweet Trey-Ity Biti Chicki bitch Zippy Chicki.
The pedigree of the Derby winner brings in a 3x3 of the litter brothers Where's Pedro and Hallucinate. It is a proven recipe, especially with top sire Barcia Bale. Group stars Shima Bar, Ritza Lenny etc are bred on this theme.
It is why I believe daughters of Barcia Bale are an ideal match for My Bro Fabio ... and vice versa.
WHILE discussing Sth Aussie success, Daryl Gaspari has been handing out cigars all week.
Daryl has been celebrating the victory, albeit up at Albion Park in Queensland, of Run With Faith (Barcia bale-Walk With Faith).
Veteran dog man Don Massey trains Run With Faith who won a 520m Maiden at Albion Park off a middle draw in great style.
Littermate Mac Roamin' was a finalist in last Thursday night's Brett Memorial Maiden at Albion Park so it augurs well for Walk With Faith at stud.
Walk With Faith is a daughter of Fear Zafonic-Surf Queen and a litter sister to Group class Whata Good Size, Shabeky and Surfonic. The latter two are proven producers.
They are also half relations to superstar, G1 Egg winner Don't Knocka Him and successful broodbitch Scissor Queen.
Walk With Faith was no slouch for Daryl making the final of the G2 Lismore Gold Cup. She ran fast times over 520m and 600m winning at Albion Park.
The bitch has since produced a litter to Group star Glen Gallon.
I've been trying for ages to talk Daryl into putting the bitch to Knocka Norris. Aston Dee Bee (whose second dam is Elite Oriental, the litter sister to Knocka Norris) is another fabulous option for her.
