Blitzing Lass

WHILE George Farrugia (Striker Light) and Steve Connor (Trip To Eden) landed the big end of the spoils on Egg/Association Cup night at Wenty at the weekend, the Group 3 Magic Maiden went to Blitzing Lass and she has a very interesting pedigree make-up.

A daughter of Irish superstar Milldean Panther, her dam Miss Blockbuster is by little known stud dog Bells Fair from the Over Flo bitch Miracle Miss.

This is the famed family of Gravel Rash the sixth dam of Blitzing Lass.

Gravel Rash (Brother Fox-Gumahah by Acclaim Star) was twice broodbitch of the year after eight wins at Wentworth Park, the Mudgee Cup, and being a finalist in the National Futurity and Chairman's Cup.

Gravel Rash's fifth dam Tamerine was the dam of star sprinter and successful sire Milimsimbi winner of the Melbourne Cup way back in 1969. Milimsimbi later sired Gabba phenomenon Top Simbi twice Qld greyhound of the year.

"Team Evolution" bred Blitzing Lass and the use of Irish star Milldean Panther was inspired.

That's because, despite being a source of speed himself, Milldean Panther has brought stamina to many of his progeny ... e.g. Lithgow Panther and Whittaker.

Milldean Panther's sire College Causeway, even though he won the Irish Derby and ran a 550 yard track record at Shelbourne, also showed enough stamina to say he would get stayers when he went to stud.

His son Milldean Panther is incestuously in-bred to the full relations Minnies Surprise and Spiral Nikita.

My great mate Paul, who brought in all the Spiral Nikita semen to Australia, always reinforces the fact Spiral Nikita was a strong middle distance performer in Ireland. As the damsire of Milldean Panther, he was going to influence for some degree of stamina.

The need for stamina was a huge factor when it came time for "Team Evolution" to mate Miss Blockbuster and ultimately produce the Group 3 Mega Maiden winner Blitzing Lass.

That's because Miss Blockbuster was a shortcourser.

She obviously got this trait from her sire Bells Fair (Collision-Fair Hazard) who, despite winning 51 races, was a Tweed Galaxy finalist and primarily a shortcourser.

Bells Fair has a hugely line-bred pedigree with a 4x3 duplication and balance of New Tears, but also a cross of Brother Fox and his half sister People's Choice 4x4. Bells Fair, like all the Northfield family's famous progeny on the Northern Rivers, traces directly to Pitstock Park via a sister (People's Choice) to Acacia Park.

The 2016 Golden Easter Egg third, but Gosford Cup and Richmond Derby winner Knight Sprite, is from the very same family as Bells Fair.

Bells Fair is out of Fair Hazard who is the second dam of Knight Sprite.

While Blitzing Lass' dam Miss Blockbuster was a shortcourser, her dam Miracle Miss (Over Flo-Jetset Lass) was not. She was a multiple 720m winner at Wentworth Park.

So, the influence of Bells Fair upon the stamina of Miss Blockbuster was HUGE.

Blitzing Lass' third dam is Jetset Lass (Just The Best-Alarming Girl by Barneys Alarm).

Among the family of Gravel Rash is Give Me Five a VERY fast race dog who became a handy stud dog at best.

A simple look at a couple of the very best progeny sired by Give Me Five shows some similar lines to that of the family of Blitzing Lass.

Allen Dion, a finalist in the Group 1 Vic Peters and Group 2 Shepparton Cup, was by Give Me Five from a Just The Best bitch.

Al's Special, third in the Group 2 WA Derby and the Group 3 Mandurah Birthday Cup, was by Give Me Give from a daughter of Collision.

While Blitzing Lass might be by the Irish star Milldean Panther, a son of Irish Star College Causeway, of course this is the Go Wild Teddy sireline.

Go Wild Teddy and Collision combine in the pedigree of Blitzing Lass. They are both bred on the cross of the half brothers Acacia Park and Brother Fox.

And Over Flo, sire of Blitzing Lass' second dam, is also bred on the same Brother Fox/Malawi's Prince cross as Go Wild Teddy.

Being a female, I believe Blitzing Lass has probably thrown more to her sireline (and probably directly to Spiral Nikita), than her speedy dam or damsire.

This has obviously allowed her to run a strong 520m.

And, win the Group 3 Magic Maiden.
