Watch The Wasp

IT is said in breeding the greyhound that no matter how much things change, they still stay the same.

On Saturday night at Wentworth Park, two Group races were run, the Group 2Bob Payne Spring Sprint and the Group 3 Chairman's Cup.

Watch The Wasp (Shakey Jakey-Midnight News by Bombastic Shiraz) won the Sprint, Billy's Bake (Barcia Bale-Evie's Entity by Mogambo) the distance.

A few years ago, David Pringle hit on the idea of mating the Ready To Rain female family together. He put Midnight Movie to Buck Fever and got Group 1 Bold Trease winner Bourbski Fever. It produced a 3x2 cross of the virtual sisters Naughty Thoughts and Midnight Drama. Both are by Go Wild Teddy. Naughty Thoughts is out of Ready To Rain. Midnight Drama is out of Ready To Rain's daughter Ready To Rise.

So David gave the cross another try.

This time he put Midnight News to Shakey Jakey (a half brother to Buck Fever).

This time it brought in the virtual sisters Naughty Thoughts and Midnight Drama 3x3 and again along the direct female line on both sides of the pedigree.

It produced Saturday night's Group 2 Bob Payne Sprint winner.

Why didn't it produce a stayer, just like Bourbski Fever, I hear you ask?

Well, it did!

Also in the litter that contains Watch The Wasp is Midnight Elsa a finalist in the Group 1 Sandown Cup and Group 2 McKenna Memorial, but also Nature's Gent a finalist in the Group 2 Speed Star.

Interesting that Watch The Wasp and Nature's Gent are males and sprinters. Midnight Elsa and Bourbski Fever ... females.

Watch The Wasp's dam Midnight News is a quality producer.

She is also the dam of a Collision litter that includes Old Timer (17 wins and 16 placings and $71,000).

WHICH brings us to Chairman's Cup winner Billy's Bake.

Take a close look at the pedigree of Billy's Bake. He is by champion sire Barcia Bale. His dam is bred on a very interesting cross of Golden Currency, Spiral Nikita and the brothers Amerigo Man and Bogenfel.

Now, give the pedigree of Barcia Bale's champion son Dyna Double One a close gander.

His mother just happens to be bred on the very same Spiral Nikita, Golden Currency cross and has a touch of West Cape ... the littermate of Bogenfel and Amerigo Man.

What was that we said earlier about no matter how much things change, they stay the same.

But, Billy's Bake also has a cross of the litter brothers Hallucinate and Where's Pedro 3x3 via a daughter and a son respectively.

Do yourself a favour and check out the number of quality gallopers sired by Barcia Bale bred along this cross of the litter brothers.

And the city winners bred on this cross just keeps getting greater by the week.

Billy's Bake has won 11 races and earned $58,000. His litter sister Gotham Queen has won 10 races and earner $17,000 and is a Sandown winner.

Their mother Evie's Entity (Mogambo-Girl Aloud) won 20 races earned almost $90,000 and was a multiple Group performer against some of the best of her time including Xylia Allen.

And she was from a super litter that also included Gambo Girl, Zoenah's Entity and Marley Girl.

WHILE writing of successful daughters of Mogambo, he is the damsire of recent Group 3 Townsville Cup winner Gadsby's Road (Glen Gallon-Gotcha Coota by Mogambo).

Gadsby's Road is trained by Tom Tzouvelis who has been having a great trot having won the Group 3 Darwin Cup recently as well.

The pedigree of the Townsville Cup winner's dam Gotcha Coota is what interested me the most.

She in-bred along the direct damline on both sides of her pedigree to the famed Spanish Dance.

Gotcha Coota won one race, in a slow 30.60 at Albion Park from 18 starts. But she came from a litter of prolific winners including Gotcha Back (11 wins, $21,000), Miss Gambo (15 wins, $38,000) and Gotcha Wish (13 wins, 24 placings).

Gotcha Coota has Spanish Dance duplicated on her tail female line 6x5.

Mating her to Glen Gallon was inspired. She did not need to be mated to a stud dog in the aim of bringing in intense line breeding.

The aim was to allow the double of the famed Spanish Dance to come through in the progeny of Gotcha Coota without interference from common and dominant ancestors closer up in the pedigree.

This was done in the Glen Gallon mating and it produced a Group winner.

Glen Gallon did not get a great "go" at stud but has still become the sire of Group performers Clock Ticking, Macnivek, Natahli Deedee, Megalodon etc.

Macnivek is a particular favourite. My lovely wife and I reared him as a pup for our great mate Steve Williams. He won 13 races, was placed 22 times and earned $72,000.
