WHEN Allen Deed retired to stud some years ago, he did not really go off with a booming announcement like some racetrack stars with less ability.
The son of Jarvis Bale-Greta Bale by Where's Pedro deserved much better.
Remember, he was the former track record holder at The Meadows and we know, or we should, that track record breakers are a better chance of achieving success at stud than most.
Add to that, Allen Deed had won the G1 Adelaide Cup and "should have" won a Topgun but for being knocked down at the first turn.
He was also a finalist in the G1 Perth Cup, G1 Temlee, G1 Sale Cup (over 650m), G2 Bob Payne and G2 Ballarat Cup.
Unfortunately, Allen Deed did have a chase issue towards the end of his career. This is usually a "death knell" for a dog's stud career.
Paul Wheeler collected semen from Allen Deed then so graciously gave him to Andrea Dailly as her household pet.
It was left to Paul Wheeler to "prove" Allen Deed at stud.
Last Saturday night at The Meadows, NSW owner Eddie Kingswell stuck firm to a damline that has proven so successful for him when Stanley Road (Allen Deed-Piper Road by Barcia Bale) landed the G1 Super Stayers.
NSW breeder Toby Weekes bred the litter and it was based on what Paul Wheeler had already done with great success via Allen Deed.
A closer look at almost ALL of Allen Deed's Group class progeny will make it obvious his success has come via intense in-breeding.
That's exactly how Stanley Road is bred.
Stanley Road carries a 2x3 cross of the virtual sisters Greta Bale (Where's Pedro-Gold Rush Bale) and Princess Bale (Hallucinate-Gold Rush Bale). Where's Pedro and Hallucinate are litter brothers.
But, an analysis of Allen Deed's other Group stars, Jax Bale and his sister Malayah Bale, as well as Fabriola Zad shows they too are bred on this very strong cross.
Jax Bale and Malayah Bale bring in Greta Bale and her virtual brother Bartrim Bale.
Fabriola Zad (12 wins, $74,000, finalist G1 Hume Cup, G2 Cran Cup) and his sister Fab's Excise (14 wins, $46,000) are again bred on the Greta Bale/Princess Bale cross.
Of course, there are other progeny of Allen Deed bred by breeders other than the Wheeler family that came up with success.
Sanctify (G3 Richmond Riches, 6 wins, $59,000) and It's A Bull (14 wins, $58,000) are better than handy. But neither come close to most of those mentioned above.
Stanley Road is a success story for Eddie Kingswell.
Edddie owned NSW GOTY and G1 Perth Cup winner, successful sire Oaks Road who would in turn sire G1 winner and now successful sire Worm Burner.
Eddie bought Collision pups from Oaks Road's unraced litter sister Mystic Pace and got Boyce Road (finalist G1 Paws and G1 Nat Derby), Red Road (G2 Richmond Derby) and the 13-times winner Addison Road.
In a mating to Barcia Bale, Addison Road produced Piper Road (5 starts 3 wins at Dapto and Bulli) who has since become the dam of Stanley Road.
Stanley Road's direct damline runs to legend National Lass.
It is a damline that continues to toss up superstars today ... Stanley Road being the latest.
By the time he grabbed a narrow victory in the G1 Super Stayers at The Meadows he had raced 26 times for 11 wins, nine placings, and earned $216,000 in stakes.
