Mossimo Bale

PAUL Wheeler prides himself on, and is best known for, putting together virtual outcross pedigrees when breeding the many Bale, Dyna or Allen dogs he owns.

But Paul had a semi "brain explosion" when he designed the mating that produced Saturday night's Group 2 Cranbourne Cup winner Mossimo Bale.

While it might appear to be a fairly diverse p.edigree match ... it actually is far from that.

A son of the Wheeler champion Fernando Bale and the top class race bitch Searle Bale, Mossimo Bale had already been a finalist in the Group 1 Silver Chief.

Fernando Bale, of course, carries one cross of the Wheeler foundation bitch Gail's Beauty along his direct female line ... she is his ninth dam.

It is this Gail's Beauty saturation that is evident to those who will study the pedigree of the Cranbourne Cup winner.

Searle Bale (his dam) is by Dyna Lachlan-Princess Bale and thus a litter sister to such stars as Musquin Bale (22 wins, $188,000), Purcell Bale (18 wins, $107,000) and Tomac Bale (15 wins, $180,000).

Searle Bale was a pretty good race bitch winning 10 and being placed 17 times for $53,000 in stakes. She was a multiple Sandown and Meadows winner and a finalist in the Group 2 McKenna Memorial.

AND, Searle Bale is bred on the same Go Wild Teddy/Princess Bale cross as Barcia Bale.

You know Barcia Bale, don't you!

He's the Group 1 winner and track record breaker now the leading stud dog in the country.

Searle Bale is saturated by the blood of Gail's Beauty. She brings in no fewer than FOUR crosses in her pedigree.

Benden Flex, dam of her sire Dyna Lachlan, is heavily in-bred to Gail's Beauty. Hallucinate (damsire of Searle Bale) traces to the Wheeler-bred Handsomelee ... also from the Gail's Beauty line.

And, Princess Bale's damline carries a cross of Lansley Bale who is also from the Gail's Beauty family.

I always believe Fernando Bale would do best when he reinforced this Gail's Beauty factor in his offspring.

Early results show this is the case.

Wheeler has also put the Dyna Lachlan bitch Langi Bale to Fernando and produced a litter taking all before it in NZ.

Obviously there was a reason they ended up in NZ behind the "finish-on" lure.

But the results there from the litter show Allen Ablett is the winner of the Group 1 Spion Rose, Group 1 Hatrick Classic and second in the Group 2 Waikato Classic.

Litter brother Dirk Bale was second to him in the Group 1 Spion Rose.

Mossimo Bale is not the only star of the Fernando Bale-Searle Bale litter.

Others include Hecton Bale (10 wins, $56,000) and Lila Bale (10 wins, $46,000). All of the six in the litter are winners.

On the other hand, Searle Bale's litter to US stud dog SH Avatar (with no reinforcement of Gail's Beauty) has Dyna Elk (10 wins, $22,000) as the standout but five others who have ability but are nothing like the Fernando Bale litter (with the Gail's Beauty reinforcement).

Dyna Elk is New Zealand based.

So, where does all this lead us.

The fact Searle Bale (dam of the Cranbourne Cup winner) is bred identically to Barcia Bale means that those of you with Barcia Bale daughters can confidently mate them to Fernando Bale.

It makes sense of course.

One thing is for certain ... they don't need to go to SH Avatar.

THE brilliant 30.25 victory by Femme Folle in a heat of the Group 3 Vince Curry Maiden series at Ipswich on Saturday night is yet another example of the success of Surf Lorian bitches mated to Magic Sprite.

Femme Folle is by Magic Sprite and her dam is the royally bred Miss Lauryn (Surf Lorian-Queen Lauryn) a bitch clients of the Tom Tzouvelis kennel bought from Len Antonio when she retired.

Miss Lauryn's litter sister Regal Lauryn, winner of the Ipswich and Lismore Cups, was the better of the two race bitches.

But I remember Tony Brett, their trainer, telling me Miss Lauryn actually broke in the best of the two.

Miss Lauryn was no slouch. She a multiple Albion Park winner, was second in the Group 3 Darwin Cup and a finalist in both the Ipswich Auction and Lismore Cup.

And she ran a fast 29.96 winning at Albion Park.

As a potential broodbitch ... she was ideal.

The Magic Sprite/Surf Lorian "nick" is already proven via champion Queensland bitch Cyndie's Magic (earner of more than $400,000) and the Dennis Reid-bred stars Norm The Storm and Miner's Moss full brothers but from a repeat mating.

Tom Tzouvelis has been telling me for ages just how good this litter is. Femme Folle, already a 30.25 Ipswich winner, proves that.
