PICKING the right crosses to come is not always a tough task, even though it can be.
To me, Surf Lorian and Collision have appeared a natural combination since they emerged as leading sires.
They complement each other, bringing in much needed balances within the pedigrees of both.
I have written often that Surf Lorian's pedigree is saturated by SONS of Brother Fox. Three of his four dominant male lines run directly to Brother Fox via Worth Doing and the litter brothers Amerigo Man and West Cape.
Collision is the perfect foil for Surf Lorian because the only cross of Brother Fox contained in his pedigree is via his DAUGHTER Follow Through.
One of the best ways to mate to Surf Lorian is to bring back more crosses of Chariot Supreme and New Tears the dominant ancestors that appear around his saturation of Brother Fox.
Again Collision comes to the rescue here.
Collision carries a SON of New Tears (Light Of Fire) to link with the DAUGHTER strain in Surf Lorian's damline.
One of the first “good” dogs to emerge boasting a Collision/Surf Lorian cross is Rev Limiter the top grade Victorian sprinter. He is by Collision from Surf Lorian's daughter Beachley, a litter sister to champion Slater and multiple Group winner Big Swell.
And only last Thursday night at Albion Park, the cross emerged again when Withcott Warrior (Collision-Bogie Skye by Surf Lorian) won the Eric Thomson Memorial Maiden final in sensational style.
This is his pedigree:
Light Of Fire (by New Tears)
Just The Best
Barrio Fiesta (to New Tears)
Placard (by Malawi's Prince)
It is as good a pedigree as I have seen formulated.
Ryan Ayre, who shared in the litter with Bogie Skye's owner Les Bein, told me about it some months ago. Ryan was in praise of the ability of the pups in the litter. All, he said, were showing exceptional promise.
Not only does the pedigree balance Brother Fox, but it brings in that known source of early pace, duplication to Malawi's Prince 3x4 ideally sex balanced via a daughter (Rumble Spirit) and a SON (Placard).
There is the 4x5 duplication and sex balance to New Tears and yet another to Chariot Supreme who is found in the damline of Bogie Skye via his SON Shining Chariot.
There are a number of other exceptional nicks and crosses to be found back in this pedigree.
Bogie Skye was a 30.20 winner around Albion Park and a litter sister to the former high class Group dog Bogie Blaze who probably should have won a Vince Curry final, and then made the finals of such races as the Winter Carnival Cup, Gold Coast Cup, Lismore Cup and two Young Guns.
Bogie Skye has since been mated to Collision's son High Earner.
It will be interesting to see the impact of THREE crosses of Malawi's Prince in this pedigree. The fact he comes via a SON in Bogie Skye will help it.
Withcott Warrior and his littermates have huge futures.
They did so from the moment Les and Ryan decided on a mating between Collision and Bogie Skye.
