Good Investment

GOOD INVESTMENT
26.09.2010
SANDOWN last Thursday night tossed up an interesting winner in the shape of Good Investment (Pure Octane-Tiny Tipper by Ginger Magee) a red fawn dog who showed his speed with a 29.73 victory in a graded race.
Good Investment is a litter brother to Cranbourne Puppy Classic winner Pure Stealth.
It is an interesting aspect of the progeny of Pure Octane that far and away the majority of the better runners are males. Good Investment and Pure Stealth are males.
Good Investment was having his eighth race start and took his record to two wins and three placings.
This is a damline that has struggled in recent times, but seems to have found an upgrade with the mating to Pure Octane. More of that later.
Good Investment's dam Tiny Tipper won three and was placed just seven times from a 35-start career. None of her wins were in the city.
Justa Wench, second dam of Good Investment, raced 15 times and remained a maiden when she retired after just five placings.
Third dam Wacky Wench had a long and productive career of 75 starts for 10 wins and 26 placings, mostly over sprint courses.
This is the damline of Malawi's Prince, significantly the grandsire of Pure Octane. Good Investment's sixth dam is Almajak who is the third dam of Malawi's Prince. More of that later.
There is some amazing line breeding in the damline of Good Investment.
Let's start with his fifth dam My Sister Sam (Ballarat Prince-Almajak).
Ballarat Prince is 2x3 to the litter brothers Myross Again and Kilbeg Kuda (Knockrour Again-Bermuda's Glory). When Almajak (a daughter of import Magic Typhoon) went to Ballarat Prince, she brought in Kilbeg Kuda again but also had a cross of The Grand Silver (Prairie Flash-April Twilight) a litter brother to Ballarat Prince's damsire The Grand Ocean.
This is the pedigree of My Sister Sam:

Myross Again (Knockrour Again-Bermuda's Glory)
Free Speech
Last Parachute
Ballarat Prince
The Grand Ocean (Prairie Flash-April Twilight)
Coaster
Beautiful Coast (by Kilbeg Kuda brother to Myross Again)
MY SISTER SAM
The Grand Silver (Prairie Flash-April Twilight)
Magic Typhoon
Garryglass Rose (by Kilbeg Kuda)
Almajak
Clay Moss
Moor's Magic
Castle Court

So it's plain to see the intensity of the pedigree of My Sister Sam.
Three generations down the track, similar intensity was tried again and the result was Justa Wench (Hasta Luego-Wacky Wench). Wacky Wench's best runner was Tassie Star, a Group 1 finalist over the distance and line bred to the famous broodbitch Mandalass.
Justa Wench wasn't so great on the track but she was line bred 3x3 and sex balanced to Chariot Supreme, line bred 3x3 to the litter brothers Walkabout Sid and Carnival Boy but more importantly had a 5x4 duplication of Almajak through daughters and along the tail female line on both sides of her pedigree.
The intensity in her pedigree may not have come out in her own racetrack performances, but it was certainly there. It obviously just needed something to give it a lift. That arrived, obviously, when Tiny Tipper went to Pure Octane.
Pure Octane carried Malawi's Prince in his pedigree. It was the first time this damline had linked with a SON that stemmed from Almajak.
Significantly, it also brought in a cross of Malawi's Prince and his sister Chequers (dam of Justa Wench's sire Hasta Luego).
Tiny Tipper has had litters to Droopy's Puzzle and Remo Rocket, neither of which had the link to Malawi's prince, and neither of these matings produced offspring of the quality of Good Investment or Pure Stealth, although Remo Grande (by Remo Rocket) was a Meadows winner over 600m.
As we said earlier, Pure Octane appears dominant for males. The two bitches from his litter to Tiny Tipper race in North Queensland. It is unlikely they will get the chance to be bred with.
But if they do, the heavy line breedings to the same family could well be an avenue to upgrade them.
A mating to important stud dogs like Collision, Bombastic Shiraz or even Go Wild Teddy to duplicate Malawi's Prince could just help them succeed at stud.
There are obviously other avenues, like utilizing Paris Match (in the damline of Pure Octane) and her nick with Gun Law Osti (via Brett Lee), or linking Ginger Magee to his brothers Black Shiraz or Big Ginger Boy (via Vapour Whirl in particular).
