EXAMPLES OF OUR REPORTS
EL TOREADOR
El Toreador and Dulcinea
THE phone rang at home a couple of years ago. It was Edith Hancock. She was at her wit's end.
Edith and her husband Frank had come from Townsville a few years ago. They'd brought their 52-race winner Hannalore (Cry Havoc-Pistol Smoke) and her first litter of pups by Exceptional.
The Hancocks were expecting much from the litter. Hannalore was from a strong damline, had been an Albion Park Thursday night winner, won numerous country feature races and ran a track record when winning the Ayr Cup.
They were right to expect much of her as a broodbitch.
Frank had wanted to duplicate that most famous of broodbitches, Wee Sal, and this he did by putting her to Exceptional and coming up with Wee Sal 3x3 right smack in the middle of the pedigree.
This is how the mating looked:

Rapid Supreme
Star Title
Dandy Charm
Exceptional
               New Tears
Starlight Jessie
               Wee Sal
HANNIKA
               Head Honcho
Cry Havoc
               Wee Sal
Hannalore
               Malawi's Prince
Pistol Smoke
               Indiana
Edith and Frank sat back and waited. Not much turned up except some nightmare breakdown problems with the litter.
Edith admits the litter had ability but few got to the track. It was a disaster.
While the mating brought in champion producer Wee Sal through a daughter and a son, it also used Exceptional now known as a stud failure. He was by Star Title a very moderate sire despite plenty of opportunities, and he in turn a son of Rapid Supreme, yet another relative stud failure.
If you look closely at the mating, it contains SIX crosses of Waverly Supreme* all through sons. Nowhere was there an important balancing DAUGHTER strain of Waverly Supreme*.
Also Hannalore carries two daughter strains of Chariot Supreme. To help her succeed at stud, she then needs a SON of Chariot Supreme, or that important DAUGHTER of Waverly Supreme*
To Exceptional, she got none of these.
So Edith got on the phone and asked for some help.
We gave her three options, Bombastic Shiraz, Surf Lorian and Primo Uno, with a preference for Primo Uno.
Surf Lorian was an option because he does exceptionally well with bitches that carry Malawi's Prince in their pedigree. And he also carried a valuable daughter strain of Waverly Supreme. His own sire Just The Best had sired champion Bogie Leigh when mated to the Cry Havoc bitch Hypo Havoc.
This is how the mating would have looked:
               Credibility
          Just The Best
               Flying Amy
     Surf Lorian
               West Cape
          Barrio Fiesta
               Dee Bee
                (to Waverly Supreme)
TEST MATING
               Head Honcho
          Cry Havoc
               Wee Sal
     Hannalore
               Malawi's Prince
          Pistol Smoke
               Indiana
Bombastic Shiraz was a good option for Hannalore.
It duplicated Malawi's Prince 3x3 through two daughters, and in exactly the same position as the then superstar sprinter Super Hornet, winner of the Group 2 Ipswich Gold Cup. High Earner also carries this 3x3 duplication to Malawi's Prince through two daughters in exactly the same position.
This is how the mating would have looked:
               Ginger
          Black Shiraz
               Dark Horizon
     Bombastic Shiraz
               Malawi's Prince
          Bombastic Blonde
                      Blonde Bombshell
TEST MATING
               Head Honcho
          Cry Havoc
               Wee Sal
     Hannalore
               Malawi's Prince
          Pistol Smoke
               Indiana
Edith and Frank thought it over and went for Primo Uno. I, for one, was glad they did. He was the perfect mate for Hannalore.
The fact Hannalore has a 3x3 daughter duplication of Chariot Supreme coming along her immediate damline on both sides of her pedigree, means she demands in the sire she mates a return of the ancestors AROUND the duplication. By this we mean Malawi's Prince (or his sire Malawi), or Head Honcho (or his sire Walkabout Sid).
Primo Uno did this perfectly.
Primo Uno carries Walkabout Sid in his tail female line through a daughter (Polly's Portrait). If you do your homework on the best progeny of Primo Uno, and his many, many city winners, you will notice that a great percentage of them carry this duplication and sex balance to Walkabout Sid, most of them with Head Honcho in the pedigree of the dam.
Turanza Bale is bred this way, as is Cash Up, Uno Joel, Wot Price Harold, Live The Dream etc etc.
So Primo Uno supplied the much needed duplication of Walkabout Sid.
But he also catered even further to a mating to Hannalore by having Buka Sunset, the brother to Malawi the other much needed duplication. Bombastic Shiraz (a son of Black Shiraz) is in-bred 3x3 to the brothers Malawi and Buka Sunset.
This is how the mating looked:

               Ginger
          Black Shiraz
               Dark Horizon (by Buka Sunset)
     Primo Uno
               Moral Standards*
          Prima Portrait
               Polly's Portrait (by Walkabout Sid)
EL TOREADOR
               Head Honcho (by Walkabout Sid)
          Cry Havoc
               Wee Sal
     Hannalore
               Malawi's Prince (by Malawi)
          Pistol Smoke
               Indiana
Edith and Frank got 10 pups from the mating and tried to sell some... without success.
Everyone around the Northern Rivers was well aware of the bitch's "failed" litter to Exceptional and would not forgive her.
The Hancocks were forced to keep them all.
From the mating has come star galloper El Toreador, winner of the Star Maker Series at Lismore and the Young Guns at Albion Park and $30,000 in stakes since Christmas, Chachi, a multiple Albion Park winner, and the sensational bitch Dulcinea. The Hancocks tell me the rest of the litter can all run and there are plenty who have shown that on the racetrack.
Dulcinea has already run 30.18 around Lismore, gave Derby runner-up Outa Credit a huge fright one night at Lismore, and had to be scratched from the Group 2 Lismore Cup final when she was pushed into the running rail breaking her metacarpal when second in a heat.
The litter has given the Hancocks their biggest thrills in greyhound racing in 20 years in the industry.
Edith and Frank are not getting any younger.
Edith admits she's getting homesick and wants to head back to Townsville where her family is still based.
Breeding more litters could be a thing of the past.
But she did happen to ask if we could look at Dulcinea and future mating possibilities for her.
The bitch has a number of options. These include Give Me Five, the closely related Collision and Run's House, and Where's Pedro.
Dulcinea needs a SON of Chariot Supreme, or a daughter of Waverly Supreme. The bitch is line bred to three-quarter genetic ancestors Polly's Portrait and Cry Havoc who are products of Walkabout Sid with Chariot Supreme.  Also, importantly, Dulcinea now carries a duplication of Walkabout Sid 4x4. She now requires a DAUGHTER of Brother Fox in the pedigree of the sire she mates to balance these duplications of the male Walkabout Sid in her own pedigree.
Putting Dulcinea to Give Me Five brings in some much needed duplications and sex balances.
This is how the mating would look.
               Gun Law Osti
          Brett Lee
Sobbing Sal (out of Wee Sal)
     Give Me Five
               Token Prince (by Malawi's Prince)
          Doll's Me Mum
Alarming Girl (to a daughter of Ginger)
TEST MATING
               Black Shiraz (by Ginger)
          Primo Uno
               Prima Portrait
     Dulcinea
Cry Havoc (out of Wee Sal)
          Hannalore
               Pistol Smoke (by Malawi's Prince)
* Alarming Girl's granddam Gravel Rash is a DAUGHTER of Brother Fox.
* Malawi's Prince is sex balanced 4x4.
* Ginger is sex balanced 5x4.
The duplication of Sobbing Sal and her half brother Cry Havoc is another plus. Unlike Hannalore's mating to Exceptional, this duplication of Wee Sal is now 4x4 and surrounded by plenty of influential duplications and balances.
Obviously Give Me Five has to prove himself at stud, but this is a mating worth trying in the future once Dulcinea is retired and we are confident Give Me Five is a success.
Using Collision over Dulcinea is perfect.
He carries the DAUGHTER strain of Brother Fox to balance the two son strains via Walkabout Sid in Dulcinea, and a DAUGHTER of Waverly Supreme* to balance the two son strains (via Chariot Supreme) in Hannalore. Add to this is a duplication and sex balance to Eaglehawk Star (sire of Ginger).
Here is how the pedigree would look:
Light Of Fire
Awesome Assassin
Tranquil Flame (to Eaglehawk Star)
Collision
Malawi's Prince
Rumble Spirit
Follow Through (by Brother Fox)
TEST MATING
Black Shiraz (to Eaglehawk Star)
Primo Uno
Prima Portrait
Dulcinea
Cry Havoc
Hannalore
Pistol Smoke (by Malawi's Prince)
In the mating to Run's House, Malawi's Prince is duplicated and sex balanced 4x4, and importantly Run's House carries two crosses of Chariot Supreme's SON Shining Chariot in his damline.
This is another excellent mating possibility.
Where's Pedro supplies the duplication of Wee Sal 4x4, and brings in an important daughter strain of Brother Fox (Paris Match) on the alternate sex path.
While Edith and Frank may be thinking El Toreador, Dulcinea and Chachi are the pinnacle of their greyhound racing careers, it could only be the start.
Dulcinea has numerous options for them in the future.
It might just be the beginning.
