WHILE Shima Bar was winning the Group 1 Paws of Thunder, Dublin Bull was taking out the Group 2 Summer Distance Plate, and the Group 2 Warragul Cup final field was being sorted out, Big Flood was scorching to a 29.26 victory around Sandown last Thursday night.
Big Flood is a son of Banjo Boy-Easy Baby by El Grand Senor and his Sandown victory from the Jason Thompson kennel took his record to seven wins and a second from eight starts.
And, despite looking, looking, searching, ... you name it, I am struggling to find what makes him tick and tick so very, very fast.
I have to put it down solely to his sire Banjo Boy upgrading a family that has had just fleeting moments of success over many, many years.
OK, yes his mother Easy Baby is a half sister to Hogmania (Miagi-Uno Im Loopy) who ran second in the Group 1 Galaxy at Cannington and won the Summer Chase at Wenty winning 12 races in 103 starts.
We then have to go way back to the 2007 Gosford Gold Cup finalist Rilo Gear (Bombastic Shiraz-Elzafire) to find Group class.
Maria McPherson (Grove Whisper-Capistrano), the fifth dam of Big Flood, was a Wentworth Park distance winner and in a litter to Hotshot produced NZ Group winner Mobile Mania.
This is the direct female line of Gail's Beauty, that legend foundation bitch of the Wheeler dynasty. It comes via the Oddnik/Button Ode family found in champion Odious, Proper Tears and Warren's Flyer.
But the immediate family of Big Flood shows dam Easy Baby the winner of three races at Cranbourne and Healesville over short courses.
Next dam Uno Im Loopy was unraced.
The third dam Loopylou Linda won four races at Sale, Warragul, Healesville and Traralgon over sprints in 41 starts.
In my research of the pedigree of Big flood, I found a 8x9x9 link between the genetic relations Chief Dingaan and his sister Zimbabwe, as their genetic brother Riviera Tiger.
I believe the strength found in Big Flood, a big rise from the immediate family from which he comes, probably stems from Banjo Boy's tail female line, mainly via US strength source Flying Penske.
Congratulations to the connections of Big Flood.
What a super prospect he is.
Congratulations to Banjo Boy. He's obviously upgraded this family. What a job he has done.
WHICH brings me back to Saturday night's Wenty Park Group winners Shima Bar and Dublin Bull both progeny of Barcia Bale.
Shima Bar is a son of Barcia Bale and former star staying bitch Shimaguni (hugely in-bred to the genetic sisters Polly's Portrait and Special Portrait). The pedigree of the Paws winner shows 3x3 line breeding to the littermates Hallucinate and Carnage.
It is a cross proving spectacularly successful in the progeny of Barcia Bale, mainly via Hallucinate and their other littermate Where's Pedro.
Over to Dublin Bull and he was rewarded for consistency at the top level with his Summer Plate victory. He is by Barcia Bale from Chasin The Dream a Lonesome Cry-Dreamy Blossom bitch imported to Australia by Geoff Collins.
Dreamy Blossom was a champion in the US.
But this is the direct female line of Greys Free Style (fourth dam of Dublin Bull) and she is the dam of Kinloch Brae and we all know just how good he is at this stud caper.
The Dublin Bull pedigree, to a degree, recreates the pedigree of legend stayer Destini Fireball (Where's Pedro-Greys Destiny).
Pedro, of course, is the litter brother to Barcia Bale's damsire Hallucinate. And Greys Destiny also stems from the famed Leah Jet family that produced Dublin Bull.
OVER in WA, that veteran stayer Kalden Kamanchee (Black Wolf-Kalden Hania) finished second in The Miata to continue his exploits on the track.
Bred by former Queenslander Dan Biddle, Kalden Kamanchee is a product of real home breeding.
Black Wolf (Big Daddy Cool-Abbadale Gold) won the Group 3 Young Stars Classic at Cannington but is best known for coming from a litter that produced such stars as Bramley, Kalden Athena, Kalden Mayhem, Pillow Torque, Platinum Playboy and Vancouver Kiss ALL of them Group stars.
But Kalden Kamanchee's direct damline is also that of Black Wolf. In fact, he is in-bred 3x3 to the litter sisters Sprinkles Of Gold and Fancy Blonde both of them pretty smart performers in Qld before Dan took them with him to WA.
This is the famed Bay Road Queen damline via her wonderful daughter National Queen (granddam of legends Flying Amy and Tenthill Doll).
There are numerous top class gallopers from the Bonnie Chariot branch of this family. Kalden Kamanchee is just one of them.
